These terms are often used interchangeably, but they are distinct steps in restoring and maintaining a marble floor — and each solves a different problem.
Grinding the floor with diamond abrasives to remove surface damage like scratches, etches, and dullness, leaving a smooth matte/satin finish. This is the "repair" step.
Using progressively finer diamond pads after honing to create a high-gloss, reflective mirror finish. This is the "shine" step.
A lighter maintenance technique using a floor machine and crystallization powder to renew the shine on a floor that's dull but not damaged. Great for ongoing upkeep.
Which does my floor need? If your marble floor is just dull, buffing or crystallization may be enough. If it's scratched, etched, stained, or visibly worn, it needs honing and polishing — a true restoration. We'll assess your floor and tell you the honest minimum it needs.
Marble is elegant but porous and soft enough to be worn by everyday life. Understanding what happens lets us target the right fix.
Dirt and grit tracked in from outside act like sandpaper, grinding fine scratches and dulling the surface over time.
Acidic spills — juice, wine, or harsh cleaners — chemically etch the surface, leaving dull white marks.
Old wax or sealers that have worn unevenly leave cloudy patches and a patchy look.
Because marble is porous, spilled liquids can penetrate and leave deep-set stains that won't wipe away.
We inspect the type of marble, its finish, and the extent of damage to recommend the right approach.
Furniture and surrounding areas are protected. We use wet grinding to keep dust out of your home.
Diamond discs remove scratches, etches, and dullness; honing smooths the surface.
Finer diamond pads restore a deep, reflective gloss to the entire floor.
We seal the floor to resist staining and advise on simple ongoing upkeep.
